The condition of the Vechtbrug in Breukelen has been the subject of discussion for years. In 2018, the municipality already concluded that the bridge was in worse condition than previously thought. The bridge was supposed to be renovated that year, but that was shelved because it had to be checked first whether renovation was the best choice. In the end it was decided to replace the bridge.
