Now comes a new turn in “Bäcki’s” return to Gävle.
Swedish NHL star Nicklas Bäckström Has made a big impression in North America. With a Stanley Cup title and 1 1,033 goals in 1,105 matches in the world’s best hockey league, he is one of our foremost NHL Swedes for the past 15 years.
Bäckis to Brynäs?
He broke through in Brynäs IF once in a while and in recent years he has been identified as a dream acquisition for the Gävle club. But “Bäckis” has not played hockey since the autumn of 2023 and this summer his contract with Washington Capitals is going out.

In Gävle you dream of a reunion this summer and now the dad comes Anders Bäckström with new message about the son.
– It is clear that he and the family are coming home after this season. But there will be no more game. I have a hard time believing, says Anders Bäckström to the local newspaper DG.
Brynäs gives answers
Nicklas Bäckström thus moves home to Sweden again but some more play on ice it probably won’t be for his part. Brynäs Sports Manager Johan Alcén Now says what he thinks about the new turn for the potential new acquisition.
– I have nothing to add to that interview. I haven’t even read any article about it, he tells Expressen.
– I don’t want to comment on that. You get to talk to Nicklas and his dad.

On Wednesday evening, another adversity for Brynäs came when the Malmö Redhawks won and leveled to 2-2 in the quarterfinals series during the SHL playoffs.
– A bad start. We will not catch up after that and Malmö is effective, says sports manager Alcén to the evening newspaper.
– It’s a new match next. All matches in the playoffs live their own lives. We can’t compare the matches, but it’s just about moving on. Not too high, not too low, we drive on.
