Since January 2021, opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been imprisoned. He was arrested just six months after being poisoned – something that the Russian intelligence service is accused of being behind.
In March 2022, Navalny was sentenced to an additional nine years in prison on suspicion of corruption against the Russian state.
– Yesterday he was in solitary confinement and received 3,828 pages of papers that are indictments, crimes that he allegedly committed to a large extent when he was already in prison, says Bert Sundström in The morning studio.
According to Bert Sundström, the prosecutor is demanding 30 years in prison for Navalny. He is accused of extremism and allegedly encourages others to commit acts directed against the state.
– It’s all just deplorable.
Bert Sundström is skeptical of the previous judgment and believes that the Russian legal system cannot be trusted.
– Basically, the idea is that Navalny should be kept locked up.
