The great success of Yellowstone has left its mark on the series world and the Western genre – whether classic or modern – is rising to new levels of popularity. As Western thriller with shocking brutality The miniseries American Primeval will take no prisoners, as the new “Mature-Rated” trailer released by Netflix proves.
Tough Western war in 1857: This is what awaits you in Netflix’s American Primeval

And so the journey to the American West soon becomes a merciless fight for survival for mother Sara (Betty Gilpin), who is fleeing from the law, and the Mormon couple Jacob (Dane DeHaan) and Abish (Saura Lightfoot Leon).
According to the latest trailer, one thing is certain: American Primeval sets the world of Utah at the time of the Mormon War relentlessly cruel in the scene and is not for the faint-hearted. We already see a brutal attack on a settler trek in which Dane DeHaan’s character is bloodily and explicitly scalped, while the hermit Isaac, played by Taylor Kitsch, hunts down his enemies with pistols and axes.
Director Peter Berg is behind the project, who also directed all six episodes of the miniseries. And if you already saw some visual parallels in the trailer to a certain western thriller with Leonardo DiCaprio, you’re absolutely right: the series was written by Mark L. Smith, who also worked on the script for The Revenant.
American Primeval premieres on Netflix on January 9, 2025 with all six episodes. And it’s not the only exciting series launching in January:
