Joaquin Phoenix passed out on the set of horror master Ari Aster in
Aster revealed the story behind Phoenix’s on-set breakdown at a recent preview screening of the film, Deadline reports. According to the director, the scene wasn’t about him at all, but about Patti LuPone, who plays his character’s mother in Beau Is Afraid. “Suddenly he fell out of the picture‘ Aster explained. “I was pissed because it was a really good take.”
The director didn’t reveal why Phoenix lost consciousness. In Beau Is Afraid he plays a man suffering from severe paranoia who wants to visit his mother and exposes oneself to intense mental and physical exertion.
