Netflix’s sequel to Dahmer revolves around the murderers Lyle and Erik Menendez
American Horror Story creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are once again behind Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez. This time, however, the focus is not on a hideous serial killer, but on a shocking and real double murder from 1989.

The new teaser for the Netflix series creates an idyllic family portrait of the Menendez family, but appearances are deceptive. The brothers Erik (Cooper Koch) and Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) will soon murder their parents Kitty (Chloë Sevigny) and José (Javier Bardem) together and cover up their crime. But are they really cold-blooded murderers who only had their father’s fortune in mind? Or were they perhaps tragic victims who from the real monsters of their history wanted?
The story of the brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez has been the basis for several true crime documentaries, feature films and series. A detailed fictional treatment of the case was previously shown in 2017 in the crime series Law & Order: True Crime.
When will Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story be released on Netflix?
The miniseries Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez will be released on 19 September 2024 with all eight episodes on Netflix.
Following the success of Dahmer, Netflix renewed the monster anthology for two more seasons. It is not yet known which notorious real-life murder case will be examined in the third installment.
