A section of the favorite series. This is all that is needed in terms of time for your child to be exposed to grooming, according to the Children’s Rights Organization Child X, which is now launching a service for parents to more easily understand the danger.
45 minutes is all it takes for a perpetrator to groom a child in a gaming environment online, says Ida Östensson, secretary general of Child X. The figure comes from the international children’s rights organization We Protect’s report from 2023.
“It’s like a half in football or a section in a reality series. The perpetrators use new methods all the time – and the adult world must keep up to protect their children,” she said in a press release.
To understand what type of messages one’s children can have, the Child X grooming generator is launching, which automatically sends messages to the person registering.
“The experience can be unpleasant, but it is crucial for us to understand how manipulative these processes are and how we can better protect children,” says Ida Östensson.
Child X has conducted several different surveys together with, among others, Novus and Verrant (formerly Sifo). In one of them, it appears that every third young person has ever received unwanted questions about sending nude pictures of themselves. In another recent survey, six out of ten parents state that they are worried about their children being groomed online.
