New Tomb Raider Game May Be Delayed

Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics has faced layoffs during the “restructuring” process taking place under Embracer Group.

Famous Tomb Raider studio Crystal Dynamics announced that ten people were dismissed as part of “internal restructuring” after many employees posted on social media about the news of layoffs.

High-Level Departures at Crystal Dynamics

Nicholas Edwards announced on LinkedIn that he is leaving his role as senior brand manager at Crystal Dynamics. “I was one of those laid off in the last wave of Embracer,” Edwards said, noting that the layoffs affected many departments, including public relations, project management, 2D art and video editing.

Adam Kahn, better known as Crystal Dynamics’ communications manager, was the victim of today’s layoffs. Neha Nair also made a statement saying, “I was laid off today after 3.5 years at Crystal Dynamics.”

In light of these layoffs, the studio, which is currently developing a new Tomb Raider project for Amazon and contributing to the remake of Microsoft’s Perfect Dark, confirmed the developments on social media.

“As Crystal Dynamics, we had to undergo an internal restructuring to better meet our current business needs. Today, we had to part ways with nine brand/marketing and one IT employee,” the statement said. It was also stated that they are working closely with affected employees to provide support.

High-Level Departures at Crystal Dynamics

Crystal Dynamics, owned by Embracer Group, is undergoing a “wide-ranging restructuring” due to financial difficulties. The previous month, Embracer Group announced that it would shut down Volition Games, the developer of the Saints Row game. However, 26 people were laid off at Beamdog, the Embracer studio behind the recently released Mythforce game.

Embracer confirmed earlier this month that it plans to sell Borderlands developer Gearbox, in line with its restructuring plans. Yesterday, Saber Interactive, another subsidiary of Embracer, announced that the development of the multiplayer Evil Dead game last year was stopped and the planned Switch version was canceled.
