The Norrbotten region has previously used a system called Mobilräddarna, which has now been discontinued. But the people who have been registered as mobile rescuers are not moved automatically because it is required to download the SMS Lifeguard app.
“Hope many people register”
– We hope that the 4,000 Norrbotten residents who have been mobile rescuers now want to register as volunteer SMS lifeguards so that they can continue to be involved and save lives, says business developer Pontus Albertsson Åman.
The new system is operated through a collaboration between SOS Alarm and Heartrunner Sweden AB.
Important effort
– Using new technology and involving citizens in the chain that saves lives is important to increase survival after cardiac arrest according to international research. In the event of a cardiac arrest, the time for cardiopulmonary resuscitation or defibrillation is absolutely crucial and with the help of volunteer SMS lifeguards, the rescue operation can begin early while waiting for an ambulance, says Patrik Glantz in a press release from the Norrbotten Region.
Region Stockholm is one of ten regions that are already connected to the system and in 2019, 1,230 alarms went out to volunteer lifeguards in Stockholm. In about 47 percent of the cases, volunteers came to the scene of the cardiac arrest before an ambulance.
