New survival MMO on Steam looks like the next big hit – but you don’t trust it

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Survival MMO The Day Before is one of the most anticipated games coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X in the foreseeable future. But after the release was postponed twice, doubts are growing. Also in the MeinMMO community.

Why is the game so highly anticipated?

  • The Day Before fulfills a wish of many players who played The Division: make a game with this atmosphere and throw in zombies and you’ll have exactly what we love about The Walking Dead. It is precisely this wish for a mix of “surviving in the post-apocalypse” and “shooting zombies” that The Day Before is supposed to fulfill.
  • The genre of “survival MMOs” is chronically understaffed, especially in the glossy area: the genre is popular, but there is no clearly dominant game. Games like DayZ, Rust, Conan Exiles or ARK are all getting on in years or have always been games for the niche. People want a breath of fresh air. You saw that in February 2021 when an indie game in the genre suddenly became huge on Steam.
  • Also, The Day Before looked great in early trailers.

What is the catch? The release of “The Day Before” was originally supposed to take place in June 2022, but has now been postponed to November 10, 2023.

The title has now completely disappeared from Steam, allegedly due to copyright problems – but some people think that’s an excuse from the developers. They actually state that they wanted to postpone the game anyway.

The screenshots for the game also look very similar to The Division.

And one wonders why a team and a publisher that hadn’t previously developed anything even remotely in this league should now put together such a snazzy new game.

The developers, however, point out: It all makes sense. They lived for the game for 4 years. The fact that no one believes in them inspires them even more. They felt like underdogs in a ’90s action movie.

Steam: The makers of The Day Before respond to accusations that their game is just a scam

Only “18% of MeinMMO readers” believe that the team is really working on Day Before

How is this viewed by our readers? We wanted to know from MeinMMO readers if they think the developers are really working on The Day Before or if it’s a scam.

    5,918 readers replied:

  • Only 18% are sure the team is really working on the game
  • 30% are convinced: It is a scam
  • However, the majority, 33% say: “I’m not sure”
  • 19% say they don’t care
  • So nearly two-thirds of our readers (63%) are at least skeptical about The Day Before, with some already dismissing it.

Only about one in five MeinMMO readers who took part in the vote is convinced that the game will really come into being.

Many readers no longer trust trailers – prefer to wait and see

What are readers saying in the comments? What speaks most for the game and what the developers have also used as an argument: The team is currently not making any money with “The Day Before”, they are not collecting donations and there is no pre-sale. So cheating would do no good.

Readers caution: The publisher could still capitalize on the game’s tremendous pull by drawing attention to its other games.

However, many other users state that they do not expect anything great from the game, have been fooled too often by great trailers that promise fast-paced action and a “super zombie” game, but were not able to convince the release.

For some readers, the hype seems to have died down. MyMMO reader Captnhero says:

“What got me was the first gameplay teaser – it looked like Division with zombies. Unfortunately, the last gameplay trailer was the exact opposite.”

Some readers doubt that the game will actually be released in November 2023. One fears that the developers could then come up with a new excuse and postpone it again.

This is behind it: In conclusion, one can probably say that many MeinMMO readers are skeptical about the game, but have not yet formed a final judgment.

But at the moment you don’t see any compulsion to make a commitment now and you’re just waiting to see what comes next.

If, contrary to expectations, “The Day Before” creates a good vibe for the release, many of the current reservations could quickly be forgotten.
