New survival game takes place in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3, offers co-op and “life simulation”

Gameloft, the makers of Disney’s Dreamlight Valley, have announced a new game. There is no name for the project yet – only that it takes place in the Forgotten Realms. This is the world from Dungeons & Dragons in which you find yourself in Baldur’s Gate 3. The game should contain content from different genres.

What kind of game is this?

  • Gameloft describes the game as a mixture of survival, life simulation and action RPG – roughly a combination of Valheim, Stardew Valley and Diablo.
  • Dungeons & Dragons, or more specifically: the Forgotten Realms, serves as the basis for the game. Baldur’s Gate 3 and the latest D&D film “Honor Among Thieves” already took place in this universe.
  • The studio itself already has experience with similar games. Gameloft is responsible for Disney Dreamlight Valley, which even delights MMORPG fans.

    • When and where will the game be released? The as yet unnamed game will be released for PC and “consoles”. So far, the developers have not yet named any specific platforms. However, Dreamlight Valley was released for PC, Xbox and PS5, so it is quite possible that all platforms will be served.

    In the press releases on the official website and on X there is nothing else about the planned release of the game. We also don’t yet know at what point the development is currently.

    There is no trailer yet, just a single image that shows several characters from the world of D&D: a dragonborn bard with only one leg, a (half) elf and presumably a human at a campfire.

    New D&D game is coming – what’s in it?

    Gameloft speaks of “cooperative gameplay, built around an innovative hybrid of survival, life simulation and action RPG.” The game’s focus is apparently on adventures that you should experience and survive together.

    At least when it comes to life simulation and adventure, Gameloft already has experience. With Dreamlight Valley, the studio has created a licensed game that is very well received by players.

    Since Dungeons & Dragons has so far appeared primarily with CRPGs in the video game sector, a survival approach would actually be something new. However, we cannot say how strong the weighting of the respective genres will be in the end.

    However, a kind of mixture of Valheim and Baldur’s Gate 3 would be very conceivable and would fit both the description and the planned world of the Forgotten Realms. However, we don’t expect an extensive narrative like in Larian’s RPG hit. Sandbox adventures are more likely here.
