New survival game on Steam will offer an “earth-scale world” and is just the beginning of an even bigger project

The creator of PUBG is pursuing a big goal with a new survival game on Steam: a gigantic game world, perhaps even as big as our Earth. A demo shows what would be possible.

What game is this about? Following the PC Gaming Show on December 5, 2024, the development studio Playerunknown Productions – the new studio of Brendan Greene, the former chief developer of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG for short) – announced three new games.

The first of the three announced games is called Prologue: Go Wayback! and is scheduled to enter early access in the second quarter of 2025. The developers have also released a trailer.

New technology for huge game worlds

What kind of game is this? Prologue: Go Wayback! is a single player survival game. Your goal is simple: protect yourself from the extreme weather, reach the weather station and call for help.

  • Click here for Prologue: Go Wayback! on Steam
  • As the name suggests, this is just a first step towards an even bigger game. This is currently known under the project name Artemis and will also offer multiplayer. At the center is a large, emergent open world that is constantly changing. This is made possible by an in-house technology called Melba. According to the developers, it is able to instantly generate millions of cards thanks to machine learning.

Preface: Undiscovered World offers a foretaste of this technology. This is a tech demo that you can download now on Steam. There, an “Earth-scale world” is open to you to explore. This is created dynamically every time, without being connected to a cloud.

    Scope and future projects

How big will Prologue: Go Wayback be! actually? The game probably won’t reach the standards of the tech demo, at least the developers didn’t explicitly say that anywhere. Project Artemis is definitely aiming for such a large game world.

All that is known about Project Artemis so far is that it will also be a survival game. However, this will also offer multiplayer. This means that such a gigantic game world could do much more than a pure single-player title.

What has been announced now? Excluding the tech demo Preface: Undiscovered World, two new games were named. But three games were announced. The second is scheduled to appear before Project Artemis, but nothing more is known about it yet.

The roadmap currently looks like this:

  • Preface: Undiscovered World (tech demo, available now)
  • Prologue: Go Wayback! (Single Player Survival, Q2 2025)
  • Unannounced title (?)
  • Project Artemis (multiplayer survival)
  • MeinMMO already reported on Project Artemis last year. Even back then it was said that Brendan Greene’s new game would depict an entire planet. You can find more details in our article from back then: The creator of PUBG revolutionized gaming – His next game should reflect the whole world
