The survival game Soulmask was released on Steam less than a week ago. Now the developers have already spoken out and promised that they are working on some important improvements.
MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus has already tested the game in the 40-hour demo – but the game is far too big for such a short time.
What is the status after the first week? After the first few days and 38,000 players, Soulmask looks like it’s had a strong start. With over 3,000 reviews, the game currently has a positive rating of 79%.
Soulmask is still in its infancy, and despite many positive reviews and high numbers, the developers at CampFire Studio say: “We are not good enough yet.” They now talked about some of the most important improvements they are already working on, in addition to a few requested updates.
What are the developers working on now? With an open world and plenty of material for hundreds of hours of gameplay, it’s no surprise that there are still a few problems in Early Access. However, the developers have recognized these and are now tackling them.
A bigger problem they’re trying to address now is when players die during the game, as it can happen that your items that you can collect in the world just disappear. CampFire also talked about a solution if you’re currently affected by this.
You then need to reset all your settings to “Default” through the advanced settings menu. Then you can set the amount of time it takes before your stuff essentially self-destructs after you die.
CampFire also commented on other complaints they have heard from their players. These include that some tribe members get stuck, that you cannot successfully catch mounts, or that materials appear but you cannot collect them. The team has identified these problems and is now working on them. For example, they want to improve the AI of the tribe members.
Better filters and sorting for your backpack
The team is currently working on improving the filter and sorting in the backpack. “We are currently testing the stability,” they say about the current status. This is certainly good news for anyone who has problems keeping track of their inventory. “Please give us a little more time, it will be available soon,” the developers promise.
Whether the number of tribe members will be increased, as many players want, depends on how much it affects the balance of the game. Here, too, they are asking for more time. Diseases will instead be scaled down a bit so that they don’t suddenly wipe out your entire tribe.
And finally, the team would work on adding a mechanic that ensures that when you fight bosses with your teammates, the difficulty increases, but also the drop rate increases. “So that every participant receives items of equal value,” the official statement says.
