New strong earthquake in the Pacific Ocean

For the second day in a row, a strong earthquake has occurred in the Pacific Ocean, near New Caledonia.

The quake occurred at a depth of 35 kilometers about 300 kilometers east of the New Caledonian archipelago.

The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.1, and is not expected to lead to higher tsunami waves than a few decimetres. On Friday, a 7.7-magnitude quake struck nearby, forcing people to take shelter on several nearby island nations amid tsunami warnings.
