The police are changing their strategy in the search for the missing woman in Vetlanda. Since large parts of the area have been searched without her being found, the search efforts must now be marked based on the tips that come in.

The woman, who is in her 20s, disappeared in connection with a night out in Vetlanda last Saturday. She was reported missing on Sunday afternoon and during the week an intensive search for her has been underway.

Two women in their 20s were detained on Thursday on probable cause on suspicion of kidnapping.

On Friday morning, the police state that large parts of the area have been searched without the woman being found – and that they are therefore changing their strategy.

– We have done an incredibly great job when it comes to searching the local area in and around Vetlanda. We feel secure that we have done what we can there, says Johnny Gustafsson, press spokesperson at the police.

“A trauma”

During the day, the search effort will instead be focused on dot marking according to the tips that come in.

– Tips have come in continuously in this matter. It’s a situation in an area where a lot of people get very involved, a lot of people feel involved so it’s a bit of a trauma for this city. So many people want to help, says Johnny Gustafsson.

The Home Guard and Missing people, who participated in the search in previous days, will no longer be involved. However, police patrols, dog handlers and the rescue service will participate. Drones will also be used.

The Sea Rescue Society participates

In addition, the Sjörädningssällskapet will help with search efforts in lakes.

– There are quite a few lakes in the area that need to be searched a little more, so it is a special resource that is good.

Police continue to appeal for tips from the public, especially sightings from Saturday night or Sunday morning.

– Let’s judge whether it is relevant or not. It can be a small detail that for an investigator becomes a piece of the puzzle that makes him understand a larger context, says Johnny Gustafsson.
