In the real-time strategy game Stormgate, the developers want to introduce a new tool that is intended for those who find the game too difficult.
What kind of tool is this? The greatest difficulty of the real-time strategy genre is probably the macro play, i.e. the coordination of expanding your own base, building your army, fighting, upgrading and scouting all at the same time. For beginners, this can make getting started in the genre quite strenuous.
A tool is designed to solve exactly this problem in Stormgate. The tool in question is called “Buddy Bot”. The Buddy Bot lends a helping hand to anyone who wants it and automates processes in the background that beginners of the real-time strategy genre are too slow to handle.

“We don’t want to dilute RTS”
Doesn’t the tool destroy the genre? The Buddy Bot is aimed at beginners and casual gamers who have been hopelessly outmatched in all games in the genre. The tool can be configured as desired and can help players more or less, depending on how the player wants it.
It is not meant to take over the main part of the game, but to make sure that everything runs smoothly in the background. The tasks that can be given to the Buddy Bot include worker management, expanding production structures and army production. The players still have to fight and expand on their own.
CEO Tim Morten says: “It’s okay to be a game with a high difficulty level” and continues: “That’s actually a good and attractive thing. We never want to dilute that aspect of RTS, but we talk a lot about lowering the difficulty level.”
Will it just remain a bot? No, the developers have thought even further and want to make it even easier for new players to get started. In addition to a story campaign in which you learn the most important principles and which also works in co-op with two other friends, Stormgate also offers battles against computer opponents.
Stormgate will also feature private games against friends for practice. For many players, Stormgate is the beacon of hope for the entire genre and has been a huge success on Kickstarter: The hope for a new era of strategy games is back thanks to the Starcraft developers
