New Stephen King horror from Stranger Things creators creeps out

In terms of horror, 2023 has a lot to offer. M3GAN is currently running in cinemas. In the USA the hype rages around Skinamarink. This is joined by the infinity pool, which has just celebrated its premiere in Sundance. In Germany, the theatrical release of Knock at the Cabin is just around the corner, not to mention the next part of the Scream saga.

Stephen King is also represented this year with a new film on the big screen: The Boogeyman films the short story of the same name of the horror master and tells of the horror experienced by two sisters after the death of their mother. The trailer provides a first creepy glimpse into the film.

The Boogeyman was directed by the still relatively unknown Rob Savage, who caused a stir in the horror sector with his dashcam two years ago. He is promoted by Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy. It stars Sophie Thatcher and Vivien Lyra Blair, both of whom were in last year’s each of a Star Wars series played a supporting role. Tatcher appeared as Drash in The Book of Boba Fett, while Blair played the young Princess Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Horror highlight 2023: When does The Boogeyman start?

In the US, The Boogeyman was originally scheduled to appear on the Hulu streaming service. After the test screenings were very positive, 20th Century Studios decided to release the film on June 2, 2023 to bring to the cinema. It is not yet clear whether this is also the case in Germany. If The Boogeyman does not get a German theatrical release, a release on Disney + would be conceivable.
