New statements from Kingsman star Taron Egerton suggest that

Taron Egerton has submitted his candidature to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond in the Kingsman series. But apparently it wasn’t enough for the top-class casting. In a new interview, the actor who played Elton John in Rocketman casually hinted, that the new James Bond has already been chosen. But what about the story?

That’s what Taron Egerton says about the James Bond casting

Egerton is currently on the promotional tour for the upcoming movie about the making of the classic game Tetris. At Total Film he was asked about the status of the casting for James Bond:

Oh well. So, I think they already have someone and I’m not.

In the next part of his answer, Egerton backtracked a bit after being asked if he knows or rather instinctively believes:

Yeah, I mean, I’ve never been a part of those conversations. I didn’t meet the broccolos. You never asked about me. […] I think there are far, far better candidates for this role than me.

Still, it’s somewhat surprising that Egerton, who “wasn’t part of the discussions,” initially blurted out that the producing team had already made the choice. Information of this type can be rumored to spread throughout the industry. We’ll probably have to wait a while for more concrete information about the future of James Bond. In June 2022, producer Barbara Broccoli predicted that Bond 26 would start filming in 2024 at the earliest.

As a reminder: Daniel Craig’s official announcement as James Bond took place in October 2005, the start of shooting was in January 2006. A similar or longer distance is also conceivable for the new 007.

Who are the favorites in the race for Daniel Craig’s 007 successor?

The bookies’ and some industry pundits’ favorite is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who is said to have had a secret audition at Broccoli. It is conceivable that Taron Egerton is referring to him.

Other names in the running for the Craig legacy include James Norton (McMafia), Regé-Jean Page (Bridgerton) and Henry Cavill (The Witcher).
