White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby evaluated the F-16 sale to Turkey in his daily press briefing.

“WE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT”

Noting that the Joe Biden administration has followed the same line on this issue since taking office, Kirby said, “We have had a consistent policy position on this issue since we took office. We continue to support the sale of additional F-16s and the modernization of Turkey’s F-16 fleet.” made his assessment.

“I CANNOT EXPRESS A CLEAR DATE”

Kirby said that he could not give a clear date regarding the sales schedule when an official notification would be made to Congress regarding the sale of F-16s.

In October 2021, Turkey sent its letter of intent to the USA to purchase 40 block-70 F-16 fighter jets and 79 modernization kits. In its statements so far, the US administration has stated that it supports the sale of F-16s to Turkey, but has avoided clear statements about when it will make an official notification to Congress.
