New Star Wars series brings back the villains from Episode

The most exciting Star Wars project of the year is without question The Acolyte. Forget the original trilogy. We are finally moving into an era that has hardly been explored in the films and series of the star saga: the High Republic era. Specifically, we are witnessing the decline of this radiant age.

In the High Republic, the Jedi were at the height of their power. The Acolyte now feels like a countdown to hers impending doom before the Sith reveal themselves again in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Fittingly, an unmistakable species from the prequels returns.

Star Wars returns in a new series: The Neimoidians are also up to mischief in The Acolyte

A TV spot for The Acolyte was released in South Korea over the weekend, mostly featuring familiar material. However, a brief moment causes a stir: Were they Neimoidians? Yes indeed! The Acolyte brings back the very species that started it all in Episode I.

In case you don’t remember, the amphibious Neimoidians appear in The Phantom Menace as central people of the Trade Federation and – under the secret instructions of Palpatine – initiate the blockade of Naboo. This event triggers all other events in the prequel trilogy.

How exactly the Neimoidians fit into the plot of The Acolyte is unclear. However, their presence is a clear sign that the series borrows more from the prequels than most other Star Wars projects. Maybe we’ll experience something like that Fall of the Republic is threaded out of the shadows.
