We’ve known since October that Christopher Nolan is working on a new film. While the project was initially only described with cryptic snippets of information, it is now clear: Nolan is adapting Homer’s Odyssey for the big screen. It will be his first major fantasy adventure in which he sits in the director’s chair.
In such a blockbuster project of monumental proportions, a well-known cast cannot be missing. After several Hollywood stars have already been cast for the $250 million film adaptation, the next familiar face is now joining the ensemble: Jon Bernthal, known from The Walking Dead and Marvel.
Deadline breaks the news of Bernthal’s casting in The Odyssey.
After The Walking Dead and Marvel, Jon Bernthal joins the new Christopher Nolan film
In the first season of The Walking Dead, Bernthal was as Shane to see, an extremely shady but groundbreaking figure for the zombie series. Morally ambivalent things continued with his second star role: that Punisher aka Frank Castle. He first embodied anti-heroes in the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil, followed by Marvel’s The Punisher. He returns in Daredevil: Born Again in March.
In addition, Bernthal has appeared in numerous films and series in recent years, mostly in supporting roles that seem quite unspectacular at first glance. However, Bernthal has the gift of making every character, no matter how inconspicuous, stand out striking profile to lend. Before you know it, you’re dealing with an extremely stubborn character that you just can’t get out of your head.
You love to hate him: Bernthal doesn’t shy away from taking on uncomfortable roles and becoming a target for the audience’s displeasure. Bernthal is great at… Increasing obnoxious character traitswithout losing the nuances in his acting. We’ll be very excited to see how Nolan will use it in a fantasy adventure setting.
