New shooter on Steam hits 123,000 viewers on Twitch on Day 1 – Why is The Finals so popular?

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

New shooter The Finals has launched a closed beta on Steam, which attracted 123,000 viewers on Twitch on the first day.

What kind of game is this? The Finals is an upcoming arena shooter from Embark Studios, coming as a F2P title on PC via Steam, on PS5 and on Xbox Series X|S.

In the shooter, you compete against other players in a kind of game show, with various weapons and gadgets available to you. In addition, in the Finals you can use the massive destructibility of the maps to change the maps in your favor and gain a tactical advantage from them.

In addition to the possibility of blowing up entire buildings, you can also sneak up on your opponents and eliminate them as silently as possible. In general, you put together your loadout freely and choose the weapons, skills and equipment you use.

A two-week closed beta of The Finals is currently running, in which MeinMMO editor Maik Schneider also took part.

The Finals brings a breath of fresh air to the tired shooter genre

Why is the Finals so popular? The Finals went into closed beta on March 7th and peaked at 123,000 viewers on Twitch (via Sullygnome) on day one. But why is the shooter so popular?

The Finals brings a breath of fresh air to the shooter genre. It is a new, unused IP. In addition, the big names in the genre are currently in a difficult position.

With The Finals, a completely new F2P shooter will come onto the market that shooter fans can hope for and that does not occupy the well-known sub-genres. It’s not a new battle royale shooter, nor is it an EFT like.

Appropriately, The Finals brings along some aspects that make the hearts of shooter fans beat faster. This includes modern weapons and gadgets, an extraordinary movement and a development team experienced in shooters – former DICE and Battlefield employees such as Patrick Söderlund and Robert Runessson work at Embark Studio.

All of this makes The Finals a game that shooter fans should at least check out. However, access to a closed beta is limited and not everyone has been invited to the test. For many, the only thing left is to watch a stream to get a first impression of the gameplay outside of trailers.

Can you still join the beta? Yes, the closed beta is still running for two weeks and in theory you can still participate. To do this, you must request access to the test on The Finals Steam page. However, there is no guarantee that you will subsequently receive access.
