In Kherson in Ukraine, the Russian attacks continue even during Christmas Eve. At least seven people are said to have been killed and, according to the region’s governor, another 60 people are said to be injured – among them a six-year-old girl whose condition is serious.

Images from the scene show burning shops, cars and paramedics rushing to care for survivors. After the bombing, the city’s blood bank urged people to donate blood immediately.

The city of Kherson was previously occupied but was liberated by Ukrainian forces in November after the Russian military conducted a retreat across the Nepr River. But the city is still within range of Russian artillery and has been subjected to repeated shelling since the retreat.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has commented on the incident on social media and writes:

“These are not military installations. This is not war according to the established rules. This is terrorism, it is killing as a scare tactic and for fun.”
