It is the city planning board that will deal with the issue starting on January 12, and the administration’s proposal is that a prefabricated sewage treatment plant be built in the ground at a cost of up to three million kroner.
“We need to take action”
– The situation is relatively acute. We need to take action. The idea is that we will implement this during the next year, says Luleå Miljöresurs VA manager Petra Viklund.
In the preliminary study for the new sewage treatment plant in Niemisel, it is stated that sampling shows that the infiltration plant’s ability to bind phosphorus has decreased and that the valves and wells are in such poor condition that it is not an option to continue operating the plant in its current condition.
The works are almost finished
The works are almost finished and need to be replaced.
– We have another eight small treatment plants that are also on the way to reaching their technical lifetimes over a 20-year period. They are located in Jämtön, Vitå and Brändön, among other places, and the same solution could be applied there and there is a turn order for that, says Petra Viklund
