In NCIS: Origins, Austin Stowell (Fantasy Island) takes on the role of the iconic investigator. The plot of the new series takes place in 1991, where Gibbs has just been hired as a special agent. Before that, he had lost his wife and daughter in an assassination attempt by a Mexican drug lord. In NCIS: Origins, he begins his service at the young NCIS headquarters in Camp Pendleton, California, where he joins the team led by Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).
The new NCIS series also marks the return of Mark Harmon himself, who in the English version is Off-screen narrator through the prequel. His voice can already be heard in the first trailer.
