New Secret – This is how you unlock the “old” Scholomance

Ancient Scholomance is a hidden highlight in World of Warcraft patch 10.1.5. We’ll tell you how to unlock the dungeon from 19 years ago.

Patch 10.1.5 Rifts in Time is packed with new content, and not all of it is immediately obvious. Some of the new features in World of Warcraft require you to unravel a few mysteries – such as accessing the old Scholomance. We’ll tell you how to unlock the old version of the dungeon and what that brings you.

What is this secret? This is about the “old” Scholomance, i.e. the original dungeon from the vanilla version of World of Warcraft. The dungeon was redesigned with the Mists of Pandaria expansion and has only been accessible in its new variant ever since. You can also use a new secret to unlock the “old” dungeon Scholomance again.

What brings the old Scholomance? Most notably, the opportunity to get some interesting transmog rewards that are otherwise no longer available in the game. The Scholomance bosses drop many unique pieces of gear for all armor classes, as well as some recipes that haven’t been in the game for a long time. So with the old Scholomance, you have a chance to complete your transmog collections and unlock some long-forgotten skins.

Unlock the Old Scholomance in WoW Dragonflight – Here’s how

In order to unlock the ancient Scholomance, you first need the Krastinov’s Bag of Secrets toy. This drops from Doctor Theolen Krastinov, a rare enemy in the new version of Scholomance. You don’t have to own the toy personally – you can have a friend who has it and join you to start the quest.

Step 1: The visit to Eva Sarkhoff

First you have to visit the Scholomance in its current variant. Enter the dungeon and almost complete it. In the final room (where you fight Dark Master Gandling), go up the stairs. Three rooms are accessible from here, in addition to the path back to the dungeon’s starting area. Visit the middle room and look to the left, there are some bones there.

Here you – or another player – must now use “Krastinov’s Bag of Secrets”. This spawns the ghost of Eva Sarkhoff, but she is frightened. The character with the Krastinov bag buff must now click away the buff.

Talk to Eva and she will give you Dormant Spectral Essence.

Step 2: Activate the Essence

To activate the essence you need:

  • 3x Dark Rune
  • 5x Essence of Undeath

    • With a bit of luck, you can get both items in the Scholomance or in the Plaguelands. However, the easiest way is to buy it from the auction house – the items are usually available in the high thousands.

    Step 3: The Thigh Bone

    If you left the Scholomance, re-enter it and go back to the room where Eva Sarkhoff’s ghost was. Equip the Spectral Essence and you will be able to loot “Eva’s Thighbones” from the small bone pile.

    Leave the dungeon and the associated building. Here you can see Eva’s ghost before the Scholomance. Talk to her and she will tell you what you need for a ritual: her book and five candles, which you can get from the former residents of Darrehr.

    Finally visit the old Scholomance again – we’ll show you how it’s done.

    Step 4: The 5 Candles

    To get the 5 candles, you have to equip the Spectral Essence, because only then you can see the spirits of Darrehr. However, the NPCs don’t just give you the candles, they want something in exchange. You have to find a total of 5 items in the plague lands, which you can then exchange:

  • The way out: A picture in the Eastern Plaguelands, at coordinates 56 / 66, in one of the houses of Corin’s Crossing.
  • Undelivered delivery of tobacco products: A tobacco box in the Stratholme dungeon. Enter the dungeon through the main entrance and turn left twice. The small package lies on a cart.
  • The Andorhal Title Deed: A document from the Western Plaguelands at coordinates 44 / 70. Just enter the Andorhal Town Hall, the document hangs on the wall like a poster.
  • Well water from Darrehr: You can find the fountain water directly at the fountain in Darrehr, at coordinates 69 / 79.
  • Trampled Doll: The doll can be found in Eastern Plaguelands in Darrowshire. It’s at coordinates 36 / 84 next to an old meat truck.

    • Step 5: Eva’s Diary

    The last item you need is back in the Scholomance. Re-enter the dungeon and head to the lecture hall (where the mad professor and his students are). Now orient yourself to the exit of the room as if you were going to the final boss. There are several bookshelves. On one of the shelves is “Eva’s Diary”, which you can loot. The book is quite difficult to see and it may be useful to approach the shelf “from the back” to better click on it.

    Step 6: The Ritual

    You leave the dungeon with all 5 candles, Eva’s diary and her femur. However, you remain in the Scholomance building. Instead of going left to the dungeon portal, go right. Enter the room in the northeast corner of the walls. Here you can use Eva’s diary and complete the ritual.

    Congratulations! You have now unlocked the “Memory of Scholomance”. From now on, by using this book, all your characters can enter the old Scholomance and collect the old transmogs, recipes and even a toy.
