New screen advice for babies, but the range will remain

The question is old. The research, relatively new. But already ten years ago, a group of pediatricians at Carolina University raised the alarm about the negative impact of screen time on our very little ones. Overweight, concentration problems and inhibited language development.

– Now we are putting our foot down, says Henrik Anrell at the Association of Pediatricians

The question is whether and, if so, how the Pediatric Association’s advice can affect the supply. After all, the advice is just a recommendation.

Hatten Förlag, which makes Babblarna, says that they do not have the opportunity for an interview with Kulturnyheterna.

Lekis TV, with millions of views for its Babyloonz programs on Youtube, also declines an interview with SVT.

Utbildningsradion does not make programs for children under the age of two, but welcomes the recommendations of the Association of Pediatricians.

– It has come to light in other countries in the past that screens should be avoided for the very smallest children, so it is probably a combination of our mission and an active choice, says Jenny Frisk, content manager for UR Barn.

But SVT has made a different choice and has been making Bolibompa Baby for children under two for five years now.

– Our ambition is for the programs to lead to play, movement and conversation between the parents and the children, explains children’s channel director Safa Safiyari.

At present, Safiyari cannot answer if the Pediatric Association’s recommendations may affect the supply.

– We will of course look at them closely and see what they really mean, says Safa Safiyari.
