New sci-fi movie starring Jamie Foxx is being celebrated, and rightly so

New sci fi movie starring Jamie Foxx is being celebrated and

Last weekend, the fight between cinema and streaming clearly went to the good old cinemas. The team Barbie and Oppenheimer exceeded all expectations. The Sufferer: They Cloned Tyrone, a fine new sci-fi movie starring Jamie Foxx, which opened last weekend through a personal story made a name for itself.

They Cloned Tyrone launched last Friday. John Boyega and Marvel star Teyonah Parris and Kiefer Sutherland are also there. Does that sound good? It is. But Juel Taylor’s work doesn’t quite get the attention it deserves.

That’s what They Cloned Tyrone is about

Fontaine (John Boyega) is the local drug dealer in his neighborhood and is shot dead by his rival Isaac (J. Alphonse Nicholson). He is all the more amazed that he wakes up unharmed in his bed the next morning. Along with his buddies Slick Charles (Jamie Foxx) and Yo-Yo (Teyonah Parris), he tries to unravel the mystery of his survival. Unexpectedly, their investigations lead them to a sprawling underground government laboratory.

They Cloned Tyrone performs below expectations on Netflix but is celebrated by audiences

When a new sci-fi, fantasy or star-studded film starts on Netflix, it quite reliably enters the platform’s charts at number 1. They Cloned Tyrone didn’t succeed, he only bobbed around in the midfield and has now made it to number 3 of the most watched films. The reason for this is not entirely clear. He had stiff competition on the platform with Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which also launched on Netflix late last week. It is also possible that “Barbenheimer” attracted everyone’s attention for new films.

It can’t be because of the quality:

  • At the rating portal Rotten Tomatoes, They Cloned Tyrone still has a 100 percent score with the audience after four days; the critics awarded only a slightly weaker 91 percent
  • Meta Critic also has a strong 74 percent
  • With Moviepilot, on the other hand, the film only gets a 5.8 out of 10, with only 36 ratings
  • Reminiscent of Jordan Peele’s films (Get Out and Us), They Cloned Tyrone has a paranoid approach to sci-fi fantasy that blends genre threads with a uniquely African-American perspective. With grainy imagery, They Cloned Tyrone pulls off a gritty atmosphere that doesn’t quite fit the clinical look of the usual Netflix ramp. And the story has dark surprises in store. You should definitely give the film a chance – also, but not only, because of the cast.
