Disney likes its franchises to be round. And embeds individual films a little better in the context of predecessors and successors, even after they have been released in cinemas. The proof can be found at Disney+, where a new Avatar scene at the end of the movie references Avatar 2: The Way of Water.
New Avatar scene on Disney+: Movie bully hints at Avatar 2 revenge
The scene is found at minute 152 or hour 2:32:45 in the film. There the Na’vi oversee the departure of humans from the planet Pandora after inflicting a bitter defeat on them. Originally there was only the voice of Jake (Sam Worthington) to hear. This is different now.
In the new scene, intruder-turned-enemy Selfridge (Giovanni Ribisi) turns to Jake once more and promises: “You know it’s not over yet.“ This hints at the sequel in which the human invaders return again.
As a report from Digital Spy confirms, the scene was already present in the new theatrical version of the film from 2022. It’s not the first time Disney has altered movie scenes after the fact. For example, a sequence in Ms. Marvel was altered to better suit the Spider-Man: No Way Home finale.
