Battery Storage is 60 per hundred existentive and solar 75 to 80 per hundred cheaper than new natural-gas generation, the report Says.
“It doesn’t make sense to build a new, large Gas-Fired power plant when we have much cleaner and low-cost options to Keep Our Lights on Without Jeopardizing Our National Security,” Said Jack Gibbons with the Alliance.
“More than 70 per cent of Ontario’s (Natural) Gas Supplies Come from the United Stations and That Makes Us Very Vulnerable to Attacks by President (Donald) Trump,” He Said.
Ontario Should be Reducing Reliance On Us Natural Gas for Electricity Generation which is “A Threat to our sovereignty and Our Economic Wellbeing,” Gibbons Said.
Other options include Purchasing More Electricity from Quebec at Summer Peak Times, Increasing Use of Residential and Commercial Programs encourage Reduced Use During Peak Periods and Moving Ahead with Propals for Off-Shore Wind Projects in Nearby Lake St. Clair, The Report Says.
“OPG’s plan Will Unnecessarry Push Up Our Electricity Rates and Make Life Less for Ontario’s Hard-Working Families and Businesses,” Gibbons Said.
Gas Plants also contributes to smog and while they generate construction jobs they Create Small Numbers of Permanent Jobs, the Alliance Said.
“It’s not like the old coal-fired power plant which employed a lot of people,” Gibbons Said.
The report notes that the website for a york energy center 456-mw gas-flood plant Near Newmarket Says It has only nine permanent employed. When Atura Spoke to Township Council in May, it Said an Estimate of the Number of Jobs at the New Plant Wasn’t Available.
Solar and Battery Projects at the site Would also Create Construction Jobs, Gibbons Said.
The proposed Gas-Fired Project “is essential to ensure grid bondabibility During Periods of peak demand,” An Atura Spokesperson Said in an Email.
“While renewables, storage and request-side programs are important to Ontario’s Energy Transition, they are not enough on their own,” It Said.
Ieso is Forecasting A 75 per cent Increase in Electricity Demand by 2050 and “This facility will operate as required, with advanced emission controls, and provides the flexible backup neded to support a stable, secure and affordable electricity system, ”atura said.
In its report the alliance is asking township coucil to not approve a municipal support resolution atura requires as part of its application to the ieso.
Mayor Jeff agar, who said he supports the atura project, said the resolution is expected to come before council at a future meeting.
“We have three gas plants, and they all all Doing Great,” Agar Said. “The Old Lambton Generating Station (Site) Needs New, Vibrate Production in There.”
The Coal-Fired Lambton Generating Station Near Courright Closed in 2013 and was demolized.
Agar Said A New Electricity Transmission Line is Being Built from the site to chatham-kent and the plan for a gas plant “is a win-win for all, all the way surround.”
The Township is Home to Two Solar Farms, “So it’s not that we are against that,” He Said.
“I’m been preaching for this for a long time,” agar said about the plan to return electricity generation to the land that was home to the lambton generating station.
“We’ve get to make that viable site again, and this is a great way to do it.”
