What kind of game is this? Sovereign Syndicate is a new role-playing game on Steam that throws you into a Victorian London to investigate a mysterious cult.

Since January 15, 2024, you can download the game on Steam. The first 23 reviews have already given the game 100% positive ratings and so Sovereign Syndicate should at least be worth a first look.

The game is being developed by Crimson Herring Studios and as the developers themselves say under the trailer (via YouTube), the RPG hit Disco Elysium was an inspiration for the team:

What awaits you in Sovereign Syndicate: The new steampunk role-playing game is all about exploring, understanding and uncovering London, its inhabitants and its secrets. So there won’t be any fights, but that doesn’t mean you can click your way through this RPG without any problems.

Instead, some interesting features ensure that Sovereign Syndicate could be an exciting gaming experience for you:

  • You choose one of three possible characters. Each character has their own story, but they are interwoven with each other.
  • The characters have different abilities, which you have to further develop. The skills you use frequently continue to develop. But abilities that you neglect will also deteriorate accordingly.
  • NPCs react to your characters, your gender, your origins and your words. So you have to think carefully, use your skills correctly and adapt your character if you want to achieve the right results.
  • There is also the tarot card system: Tarot cards also determine the success of your actions and dialogues – similar to the dice in Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • You can also expand your tarot card deck and adapt it to your character and playing style.
  • The game is played from an isometric perspective. As the trailer shows, the art style fits the steampunk setting wonderfully and conveys the feeling of a Victorian London very well, in which wealth, hardship, intrigue and secrets lie close together.

The game promises you a large open world that you can explore to bring new information to light. You visit dark alleys, London’s harbor district, brothels and even opium dens.

Depending on how you play and which character you have chosen, the game offers 20 different scenarios and therefore definitely has a certain replay value.
