New RPG blasts straight to launch on Steam and Twitch, has more players than Dota 2

With Baldur’s Gate 3, a new title has been released for the PC, which apparently hundreds of thousands were looking forward to. The Steam and Twitch servers collapsed right at the release. what makes it so good

What kind of game is this?

  • In Baldur’s Gate 3 you play as a hero from the Sword Coast, a world in Dungeons & Dragons.

    There were problems with the Steam servers right on the evening of the release, with users reporting slow downloads. Even Twitch seemed to be unstable at times. The figures strongly suggest that Baldur’s Gate 3 is responsible for this:

  • The game is the top seller worldwide on Steam, ahead of the long-running hit CS:GO (via Steam).
  • On the first evening, 471,897 players gambled at the top and currently 359,456 (via steamcharts). This makes the game bigger than Dota 2 on Steam, only CS:GO has even more players.
  • More than 480,000 viewers watched the release on Twitch (via sullygnome).

    • The ratings also speak for themselves. With over 18,300 recent reviews on Steam, the game has a 96% rating, making it extremely positive. Including Early Access, it’s 91% and very positive (via Steam, as of August 4, 2023).
