The opening of several reserved routes is imminent on many roads, radars are already ready to flash.
Carpooling roads are settling down everywhere in France. On these roads, the left lane, indicated by a panel with a white diamond on a blue background or by a panel displaying a light diamond, is reserved only for vehicles carrying at least two people. The authorities thus encourage motorists to share their journeys in order to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, and by ricochets reduce the risk of traffic jams.
Several major cities in France, such as Lyon, Strasbourg, Grenoble, Nantes and Rennes are already concerned. On these roads, solitary drivers can harvest a large fine if they are caught by the patrol to circulate on the lane reserved for carpooling.
Another big city will soon open a carpooling route for several tens of kilometers of roads. Forced to get used to it during the Olympic and Paralympic Games-where 185 kilometers of roads had been reserved for certain priority vehicles-the Île-de-France motorists will again have to coexist with this type of device.
Our colleagues from Argus reveal that carpooling routes will indeed be put into service on the Parisian peripheral boulevard and on the A1 and A13 motorways around the capital as the authorities wished. And that will not be long since their opening will take place before the 1er March !
Who will really have the right to circulate on these queues in a few weeks? All vehicles with at least two people on board (including a baby), emergency and police/gendarmerie vehicles, taxis as well as motorists holding the inclusion Mobility card even when they have no passenger. For drivers alone in their car, it will be necessary to resolve not to take the left lane, at least from Monday to Friday and only during rush hour (7 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.). The light diamond will be lit on the panels overlooking the carpooling tracks when they are active, and therefore extinguished on weekends and during “hollow” hours.
Still according to the Argus, carpooling radars – equipped with thermal cameras which detect the infrared radiation issued by each person – can flash from the implementation of the device. They are also already installed along the roads. But the fines, the amount of which is set at 135 euros (reduced to 90), should wait a little more. A 3 -month educational period should be established. This means that the first tickets will arrive at the start next summer.
