New report shows: So the Swedes are feeling

Seven out of ten Swedes estimate their health as good.
And in general, the Swedes are doing quite well, but there are clouds of concern.
“There are more people who experience mild problems of mental illness such as anxiety, anxiety and stomach pain,” says the Director General of the Public Health Authority Olivia Wigzell.

In today’s News Morning, Olivia Wigzell, Director General of the Public Health Authority, presented the latest annual report “Public Health in Sweden 2025”. The report shows both positive trends and areas that require continued work.

Positive trends

Sweden continues to be a country where the residents are generally feeling well. According to the report, 70 percent of the population estimates its health as good, and we see that the average life expectancy is increasing.

These advances are attributed to factors such as a robust welfare state, high level of education, good living environments, and effective access to health care.

– We see some positive trends, for example that young people consume less alcohol. There are fewer pregnant women who come with a risk use of alcohol, says Olivia Wigzell, Director General of the Public Health Authority, in News Morning.

More mental illness

Despite the positive trends, the report highlights increasing disorders of mental illness, including anxiety and stomach upset, especially in younger age groups.

Differences in health depending on the level of education and income are another constant challenge. Wigzell points out that these gaps are unjustified and that everyone in Sweden should be entitled to good health, regardless of socio -economic background.

– It’s not fair. We want it so that all groups should have good health and be able to live healthy long lives.

The Public Health Authority believes that society works actively to reduce these gaps through targeted efforts in vulnerable areas.
