Unveiled in the spring, the restyled Clio V arrives in dealerships this month of July. Renault’s favorite city car, with renewed seduction potential, is now available in three finishes, including the new Alpine version. Here is everything you need to know about the great rival of the Peugeot 208, available from 18,500 euros.
[Mis à jour le 19 juillet 2023 à 11h52] Three months after revealing the new silhouette and equipment of its revamped Clio V, Renault has officially communicated the range and prices of its flagship city car. Having again become number 1 in sales for the first half of 2023 at the expense of the Peugeot 208 – which has also just gone through the restyling box – the 5th generation Clio has been available for order since July 17 for delivery scheduled for the start of the school year. With a more aggressive design, in tune with the times, a simplified choice of finish (Evolution, Techno, Esprit Alpine), varied engines and a very attractive base price, the Clio hopes to ride on its excellent dynamics and consolidate its regained leadership in the B segment.
What’s new on the new Renault Clio?
Gone are the shyness of the beginnings, the strategy of not changing a recipe that worked… Attacked from all sides after being dethroned by the Peugeot 208, the Renault Clio went through the extreme makeover box to revive its potential seduction. Renault unveiled in the spring the first photos of its “Clio new look”, a restyled version which adopts a much more expressive, aggressive and even sporty face in its Esprit Alpine finish.
- From the front, the Clio looks like a Peugeot 308 with its wide tapered grille and its vertical lighting signature, close to the “fangs” of the latest Peugeot models which adopted these very expressive LEDs.
- It is not a coincidence. In addition to the fact that the design of the latest models of the French rival has won over a wide audience, these creations have been supervised by a certain Gilles Vidal, head of Peugeot design who went to “the enemy” in 2020 by joining Renault. This Clio is thus one of the first production models of the Diamond brand to have been under his supervision. No secret, therefore, in reviewing certain lines and major principles that he had imposed at Peugeot… The Clio, however, stands out for its sporty style with in particular a two-tone shield at the front, a brand new shield at the rear and rear lights which adopt a transparent part.
- Renault has simplified the range of the Clio V which now consists of only three finishes: Evolution, Techno Esprit Alpine. The latter offers a new version with a sporty look (17-inch rims, aluminum sports pedals, specific seats and upholstery, etc.) embodying the top of the range of the model.
- Inside, the Clio, released in 2019, has aged rather well and there will therefore be no major stylistic revolution. We note all the same an increase in equipment, illustrated by the arrival of the standard digital instrumentation, however available in two sizes depending on the finishes (7-inch screen on the Evolution and Techno finishes, 9.3 inches on the Esprit Alpine finish). The Esprit Alpine version has specific seats branded with the logo of the Dieppe brand and small attributes such as topstitching or tricolor logos scattered throughout the cabin. Outside, the shield takes on a matte gray color.
The engines of the new restyled Renault Clio
If manufacturers are increasingly shying away from diesel engines, Renault has not removed it from the catalog for its best-selling car. As expected, the range offers five different engines, from gasoline to diesel to hybrid. The small 3-cylinder SCE, exclusively on the Evolution finish, develops 65 horsepower, against 90 and 100 for the other two petrol engines. The 100 hp 1.5 Blue dCi diesel, also only available on the Clio Evolution, and the 145 hp Full Hybrid e-tech engine are the other two alternatives.

To access the hybrid engine, you have to pay a minimum of 23,600 euros (Evolution finish) while at the top of the range, the Alpine Spirit finish of the e-tech engine coupled to the automatic gearbox claims 27,400 euros.
