Another rainy weather is expected to move in shortly over Sweden – and the country’s already flooded areas.

– Tomorrow Monday will be an intermediate day, but after that more precipitation is on the way, says Emma Härenstam, meteorologist at SMHI.

Several areas in Sweden have currently been affected by floods and high water flows as a result of the storm Han’s progress earlier this week. During the weekend, another round of rain moved in over the country, which caused floods in Örebro County, among others.

Now another heavy rainstorm looks to be on its way over Sweden.

– In terms of location, the forecast is still uncertain, but the rainy weather looks like it will enter the country from the southwest on Tuesday, and then move north, says Emma Härenstam.

– Quite a lot of rain will fall in a short time. As it stands right now, the amount of rain is so great that it is a borderline case to issue a warning, but how it will turn out, it is still too early to say.

Warnings around Sweden

During the week, SMHI issued a number of warnings for floods and high water flows on, among other things, the west coast and in a belt between Gävle, Sundsvall and Dalarna. During the night to Sunday, several areas in Örebro County were also hit by heavy rain, with over a hundred flooded properties as a result.

The current – uncertain – forecast indicates that the worst rainfall from Tuesday’s rain will fall outside the currently most flooded areas.

– The forecast shows that the largest amounts of rain will fall in an area southeast of Lake Vättern, and according to our hydrologists, those lands can currently take more water. It is not as saturated there as, for example, west of Lake Vättern or in Dalarna, says Emma Härenstam.

– But if the rain reaches a meteorological warning level, it is clear that it will have consequences, and if it passes over areas that are already affected, every millimeter is a millimeter you don’t want.

Looking up over Norrland

The rainy weather is expected to reach southern Norrland on Tuesday evening and continue further north during Wednesday.

Monday, on the other hand, looks like it will mostly offer temporary weather – with a few exceptions.

– There will be a lot of sun, but there may be showers in, for example, the landscapes around Vänern, and in Bergslagen, says Emma Härenstam.
