“It’s a new type of radar system that we haven’t had in Sweden before, which gives the Armed Forces new and expanded capabilities,” says Mattias Alfredsson, project manager at FMV, in a press release.
Especially long-range radar is used to cover a large area. The system, which is ground-based, can also measure ballistic missiles, among other things.
“Measuring ballistic missiles is a new, long-awaited capability, which is now becoming part of the Swedish integrated air and robotic defense,” says Mattias Alfredsson.
The value of the agreement is around one billion kroner.
The first system will be delivered to FMV in 2025, with planned delivery to the Armed Forces in 2026. Then there will be continuous delivery to the Armed Forces until 2028.
