A pair of steel hands making the shape of a heart was recently installed near the LO Stonehouse Pedestrian Bridge in Wallaceburg. This is the first “public photo installation” in Chatham-Kent, a news release from the municipality noted.

The project was funded by the Councilor Ward Funding Program, which is sponsored by Hydro One. Each Chatham-Kent councilor has $25,000 annually to apply to a project like this while the mayor has $125,000.

The funds are meant to be spent on capital projects for recreational, art or cultural purposes, the release stated.

This photo installation “is part of a larger effort to reinvigorate the local landscape, creating spaces that beautify the community where residents can enjoy unique installations and take photos,” the release said.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff said more of these installations will be unveiled in Chatham-Kent throughout the next year.

“Public spaces are the heart of our community,” he said in the release. “By incorporating unique installations like this one, we not only beautify our community but also create interesting locations that bring people together.”

The release said the public is invited to visit the installation, take photos and tag the municipality on social media when posting photos using @municck.
