Around 10,000 demonstrators on site already in the late afternoon, write BBC.

The many protesters oppose a new “Russian” bill that is about to be passed. The new law will force NGOs and media to register as “foreign agents” if they receive more than 20 percent of their funding from abroad.

It is called the “Russian law” because Russia introduced a similar proposal in 2012.

“Under attack by the government”

According to the news agency Reuters police use tear gas, water cannons and stun grenades to disperse the crowd.

– We are under direct attack by the government. It is very clear that more and more people realize that this is scary and that they have to fight for their future, says one protester.

77 people were arrested after Tuesday’s protests, according to the country’s interior ministry.
