New protests against Netanyahu’s bill

The protest was the 16th in a row against the proposal to reduce the mandate of the country’s highest court. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Likud, said on March 27 that the controversial proposal “should rest” pending renewed talks on the law change.

The proposal is dividing Israel and has also met with discontent within Likud, and the massive protests forced the government to pause the proposal. Netanyahu and the far-right parties and ultra-Orthodox party coalitions that make up the government have not indicated they want to withdraw the proposal entirely.

Protests are also planned for Sunday and Memorial Day next week.
