On Sunday, “Mondo” will be there and unveil his own commemorative plaque.

Armand Duplantis is by far Sweden’s hottest athlete at the moment. The Swede is totally dominant in his sport, and wins competition after competition and breaks record after record.

Powerful tribute

At the age of 22, he has broken world records as many as five times. The latest is only a few days old when he jumped 6.21 meters during the WC in Eugene, USA, on the night of Monday. The record jump of course also resulted in a gold, and “Mondo” is now the reigning WC, EC and Olympic champion.

But it was two years ago, after his first world record, that it was decided that he would have a plaque dedicated to himself in Avesta, where he has strong roots. However, due to the pandemic, the ceremony has been postponed all the way until Sunday later this week.

Then “Mondo” comes to Avesta to unveil the commemorative plaque that he had placed on the pedestrian street in the city. There, his plate will lie together with other big sports profiles with connections to Avesta, including Nicklas Lidström and Tony Rickardsson.

Armand Duplanti’s mother grew up in Avesta, and both his grandmother and grandfather still live in the city.
