This decision follows a letter from Fifa which rejected the system of sponsorship of candidates by Ivorian clubs, likely, according to it, to block certain applications. This question of sponsorships has been at the heart of an imbroglio since August 2020 and the rejection of Didier Drogba’s candidacy, for lack of sufficient support within Ivorian clubs. The FIF was then placed under supervision in December 2020 by FIFA, which set up a “Standardization Committee” to try to resolve this crisis. The election has since been postponed several times.
