Six anticipated legislative elections in three years. This is not a normal political climate, but instability is the new normal in Bulgaria. The outgoing cabinet of the pro-Western parties was based on an exotic power-sharing formula: government rotation. This marriage did not last.
Corruption accusations
Nine months after its conception, at the time of the transfer of power, mutual accusations of corruption and incompetence resumed with a vengeance. The big winner is the third partner in this coalition, the ethnic Turkish party, now led by media mogul Delyan Peevski.
Fragmentation
Sanctioned by the United States for corruption, this very controversial businessman has become the spokesperson and essential ally of the majority. Sociologists do not bode well in June. They expect an equally fragmented Parliament, with the same five or six parties represented.
