We’ve been waiting for a concrete update on the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean series for years. In the past few months there have been a wide variety of statements about whether Johnny Depp is Captain Jack Sparrow returns to the big screen, not to mention a spin-off starring Barbie star Margot Robbie.
The latest rumor doesn’t mention Depp or Robbie. Instead, will a completely different name associated with the popular Disney brand: Ayo Edebiri could soon plunge into a wild fantasy adventure on the high seas and bring a breath of fresh air into the sails of the dormant pirate series.

The Edebiri rumor comes from the usually reliable scooper Daniel Richtmann (via CBR ), but has not been officially confirmed. In general, it looks like there’s a lot going on with Pirates of the Caribbean. Ayo Edebiri’s casting makes perfect sense, though. After all, she is one of them Stars of the hour in Hollywood.

Last year alone she was there five (!) films to see, from the mockumentary Theater Camp to the high school comedy Bottoms to the dark American fairy tale The Sweet East. There are also speaking roles in the acclaimed animated films Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
She played her most impressive role to date in the drama series The Bear, which is published in this country on Disney+. Two seasons already she faces the kitchen madness of a small Chicago restaurant that struggles to survive from week to week. Since then, Hollywood has been waiting anxiously to see what Edebiri does next.
So far she has appeared mainly as a supporting actress. In the Pirates of the Caribbean cosmos she could turn out to be Lead actress in her first own blockbuster prove. Apparently she is being considered for a role called Anne, who goes on a search for hidden treasure with a young pirate squad.
Does Ayo Edebiri star in Pirates of the Caribbean 6? And what actually happened to the Margot Robbie film?
It is unclear exactly which Pirates project this is. Bumblebee author Christina Hodson wrote a script for the Margot Robbie film some time ago. The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin worked with Pirates of the Caribbean veteran Ted Elliott on the script for another film, which he described as bizarre but fantastic. None of the films are in production yet.
Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the series, confirmed work to the Hollywood Reporter in December 2022 two new films:
We have two [neue Fluch der Karibik-Drehbücher] developed – the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie thing still needs to be reworked a bit. The younger cast has already come a long way. Hopefully we’ll get both.
It is very likely that Ayo Edebiri will be considered as the leading actress for the Pirates of the Caribbean film with the younger cast. Last but not least, Bruckheimer confirmed in the same interview that for him the Margot Robbie film is not off the table yet.
