Muscular rooflines and coupe-SUVs are popular right now, and Peugeot is the latest brand to monetize this craze: the new 408 fastback.
The 408, which is 1.48 meters tall, Renault Arkana or Volvo C40 like a coupe-SUVIt’s more of a high-riding sedan. In fact, according to Peugeot, the 408 is the first car of its kind on the market, albeit with some family resemblance thanks to some styling cues from the latest 308 hatch and estate.
To these “saber toothed” including daytime running lights and triple “claw” taillights. The new car also features the brand’s recently redesigned logo, with a large lion’s head badge in the middle of its grille itself set for the fastback.
Peugeot’s lineup includes the 408, the 508 family car and the mid-size 3008 SUV is among. For practicality, the upgraded five-door hatchback has a large tailgate and 471 liters of luggage space (in plug-in hybrid version). When the rear seats are lowered to 1,545 liters coming out. Despite the sloping roofline, Peugeot claims the 408 will still offer plenty of headroom, with small ‘relief areas’ in the roof at the rear to provide more room for passengers.

Performance, fuel economy and electric range figures for the plug-in hybrid 408 have yet to be released, but based on the 308 Hybrid stats, we expect the electric fastback to be able to travel around 48km (on battery power only).
Plug-in 408 as standard With 3.7kW onboard charger We know it’s coming, this is from a home wall box 12.4kWh battery a little over three hours It allows you to fill it in a short time. However, that reduced this time to just under two hours. 7.4kW you will be able to upgrade to a charger.
A few months after the 408 goes on sale in early 2023, Peugeot will likely launch an all-electric version that will likely be called the e-408. We also expect it to use the same 156bhp electric motor and 54kWh battery setup as the recently unveiled new e-308 electric hatchback and estate Peugeot.
According to Peugeot, the e-308 has a range of up to 400km on a full charge, while fast charging speeds of 100kW depending on full spec mean a 20-80% recharge takes just under half an hour. The latter, while the same for the e-408, probably won’t be able to match the e-308’s range, as it has a larger and less aerodynamic shape than the fastback family hatchback.

With the electric version based on the look of the E-308, we are unlikely to see many visual changes from the regular 408. Compared to petrol and hybrid models, there may be only additions that are an italic E emblem and a set of aero wheels.
The 408 series will be offered in higher specification Allure and GT trims and with alloy wheels up to 20 inches. Pricing is still unfinished, but given the Peugeot 308 Hybrid’s starting price of around £34,000, the more style-oriented Peugeot 408 Hybrid is likely to start at £38,000. If so, we could see the zero-emissions e-408 priced at over £40,000. Of course, these are abroad (UK prices). There is no clear information about the price structure in Turkey yet.
We expect more details about the 408’s launch to be revealed when the car is unveiled to the public at the 2022 Paris Motor Show in October. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the e-408 at the same time after the e-308 is revealed.
