Peugeot has unveiled the third generation of its high-end family SUV born in 2009. The 5008 goes electric and offers an increasingly modern and comfortable interior to appeal to families.
[Mis à jour le 20 mars 2023 à 10h38] Fifteen years after it first left the factory, the Peugeot 5008 moves into the third generation. The largest vehicle from the Lion brand, a real success in its segment, follows in the footsteps of its little brother, the new 3008 unveiled six months earlier, and is also electrified. A 100% electric version – the e-5008 – and a plug-in hybrid version will now be in the catalog of the SUV, which is also available in seven and five seats.
With its new look and its modernized interior – equipped in particular with the Panoramic i-Cockpit baptized on the e-3008, the Peugeot 5008 of 2024 gives itself the means to succeed in the face of competition from family cars, and particularly that of the new Renault Espace released Last year. Find all the information on the presentation of the new Peugeot 5008.
What’s new on the Peugeot e-5008?
- Thanks to its larger wheelbase – 2m90 compared to 2m84 previously – the Peugeot 5008 III, which is based on the STLA Medium platform from the Stellantis group, gains in robustness. Now measured at 4m79, the SUV gains no less than 14 centimeters in length, but also four in width (1m89) and five in height (1m69), thus offering greater habitability to the delight of its occupants.
- As expected, the front of the new 5008 looks like two drops of water to that of the 3008. The large SUV integrates all the elements of the little brother, in particular its large grille which according to the manufacturer “blends into a gradient of the color of the bodywork”, its light signature with three refined claws and full LEDs at both ends, and the new coat of arms with the Lion’s head in the center of the grille.
- At the rear, the 2024 Peugeot 5008 does not give in to the trend for “coupe” SUVs (like the new 3008) and retains a flat roof all the way to the stern. A desire from the manufacturer guided by the desire to keep as much space as possible within the passenger compartment. The optics now take the form of three slanted lines and no longer vertical, connected by a black strip, as on all the latest models from the Sochaux brand.
- Once in the car, it’s impossible not to have your eye drawn to the new dashboard equipped with the new Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit. Its unique panel accommodates a 21-inch curved high-definition panoramic screen that extends from the left end of the dashboard to the center console. Only a thin black strip separates the instrument cluster bringing together above the steering wheel all the information related to driving (speed, power meter, driving aids, energy flow, etc.) and the touchscreen part of the screen panoramic bringing together the navigation, media/connectivity and heating/air conditioning systems.
- The new 5008 will give its customers the choice by offering a 5-seater version and a 7-seater version. However, there is a change in the second row since the three individual seats of the same size, sliding and folding, from the previous version have disappeared. They leave room for a 15 centimeter sliding bench seat in 2/3-1/3. And in the third row it changes too! The two passengers no longer have extractable seats, replaced again by a bench seat. But everyone can recline their backrest as they wish and it is possible to fold down only half of the seat.
The engines of the new Peugeot e-5008
This is the first time that the Peugeot 5008 will be offered in a 100% electric version. At its launch, the SUV will be available with a 210 horsepower engine accompanied by a 73 kWh battery for a range of 502 kilometers in the WLTP cycle according to the manufacturer. Two variants will subsequently expand the range. The first called “long range”, with a more powerful motor (230 horsepower) and a larger battery (98 kWh) allowing the e-5008 to travel 660 kilometers on a single charge. The second, combining a 320 horsepower engine and a 73 kWh battery in all-wheel drive (4×4), promises 500 kilometers of autonomy. These two engines will normally be delivered at the beginning of 2025.
If the diesel engine has disappeared from its catalog, Peugeot’s high-end family car will also offer two levels of hybridization. A mild hybridization, with the new three-cylinder 1.2 PureTech turbo micro-hybrid 48 V of 136 horsepower, expected from the fall, and a rechargeable hybridization – again a novelty for the 5008 – promising 80 kilometers of autonomy thanks to a 92 kW electric motor combined with a 150 horsepower thermal engine for a total power of 195 horsepower. As with the electric variants, the plug-in hybrid version is expected from January.
When will the Peugeot e-5008 be released?
Presented at the end of March, the third Peugeot 5008 of the name will be available for order from June and should arrive on our roads at the beginning of autumn, probably during the month of October. The electric and micro-hybrid versions will be the first to hit the market, followed a little later by the plug-in hybrid variant.
What will the price of the Peugeot 5008 III be?
Peugeot will communicate the prices of its new family SUV when orders open in June. The second generation 5008s sell today between 38,240 euros (1.2 Pure Tech 130 horsepower) and 48,570 euros (1.5 Blue HDi 130 horsepower). The prices of the latest addition to the Lion brand will be higher. The starting price of the new Peugeot 5008 will be based on the thermal version with mild hybridization which will probably cost a little more than 40,000 euros in its Allure finish, one of the two finishes of the SUV with the GT, more upscale. The 100% electric family crossover is expected around 48,000, 49,000 euros for the version with the 210 horsepower engine and the 73 kWh battery. It would therefore be excluded from the ecological bonus, the limit for benefiting from it is set at 47,000 euros.
