New Outlines Priorities for Bchs Board

In June, Dave Diegel Became the Chair of Directors of the Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) That Operates the Brantford General Hospital and the Willett Hospital in Paris. In Many Ways, Dave has been groomed for the job.

“I was raised in Brantford and graduated from BCI (Brantford Collegiate Institute),” Diegel Said. “I Wait University of Guelph and Earned My Bachelor’s Degree, then Completed My Master’s Degree in Geography at Wilfrid Laurier University, Specializing in Social and Health Planning.”

In 1991, Diegel Began His Career As A Program Director with Brantford Red Cross Before Becoming A Health Planner with the Grand River District Health Council.

“I Went On To Work With The Ontario Minister of Health Developing Funding and Accountability Agreements,” Diegel Said. “After a Few Years I Switched Over to the Ontario Minister of Children and Youth Services where I worked Alongside Community-Based Services and Children’s Programs.”

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO, Diegel Started Consulting With Community and Children’s Services.

With his expertise in Provincial and Local Healthcare, and Experience Serving on Several Other Boards Including the Grand River Community Health Center and the Brant Family and Children’s Services, Diegel was an over to serve on the Board of Directors of the Brant Community Healthcare System.

Seven Years Ago, He joined.

“My parents were hospitalized for long periods of time, so I gained first experience of our local Healthcare System,” Diegel Said. “I COULD See How Busy The Staff, Physicians, and Volunteers Were and the Challenging Issues of the Physical Plant They Were Dealing With; But also the ‘System’ Patients and Family Members Must Navigate. ”

When Diegel Joined the Board, the BGH and Willett Were Coming Out of the Period of Supervision Imposed by the Minister of Health and Covid-19 Sowpt through the World; Healthcare was hit Particularly Hard.

“I have been a member of many boards throughout the year Involving Many Roles,” Diegel Said. “When I Joined the Bchs Board I was Impressed with the Individual Members and How Well Everyone Collaborates.”

“Past Chairs, Paul Emerson and Peter Quinlan, Did A Great Job Leading the Board and Setting The Foundation as We Move Forward.”

As diegel assumes leadership of the board, he recognizes the from they face.

“We need to respond to the changes in Brantford, Brant County, Six Nations of the Grand River, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation,” Diegel Said.

“On priorities include Completing the Emergency Department Renovation Improvement Project and Working with the Minister of Health to get the Necessary Support to Advance The Redevelopment Project for Both the Brantford General Hospital and the Willett Hospital Sites.”
