New open-world game wants to unite Genshin Impact and Valheim – The trailer is well received, but criticism hails after the beta

The trailer for the new open-world survival game Dawnlands (PC) looks promising if you can ignore the similarities to Genshin Impact and Valheim. But despite the good trailer and the anticipation of many players, it rains mainly after the beta criticism.

What kind of game is this? Dawnlands is an open-world survival game with role-playing elements that was released for PC on Steam on August 9th, 2023.

Dawnlands is also available on the game’s official website (via dawnlands.amazingseasun.com) or for download.

What is the trailer about? Already at the beginning of the trailer we get a first impression of the story of Dawnlands, which at least until now feels like a very classic journey through a fantasy world.

A demon lord has invaded the world with his monsters and beasts and the goddess calls on her warriors to fight him fearlessly. You take on the role of such a hero and travel the world together or in a group to help the goddess.

However, things get interesting when you take a closer look at the game’s graphics and mechanics. At first glance, SEASUN GAMES seems to have created a promising fantasy world. The different biomes of the world lead you through colorful fields with bright flora, snow-covered expanses or gloomy forests and promise you to find long-forgotten relics and interesting puzzles.

You will encounter various monsters up to giant luminous beings or dragons and face them in battle to defend your land. At the same time, you collect resources and build your dream house yourself.

Why is there criticism? The criticism of the trailer is mainly aimed at the graphic design of the game and its game mechanics. Already in the trailer, many players noticed the similarity to other popular games.

A user by the name of “agunabanana3422” describes the game as “a Valheim with a Genshin Impact skin” in his comment on YouTube, and this opinion seems to be widespread.

This becomes noticeable towards the end of the trailer, when the construction mechanics are shown and our hero stands in front of a goddess statue that should look familiar to Genshin players in particular.

There are also some similarities to the latest Zelda parts, such as surfing on the shield or a monster that could be Iwarok’s little brother.

Now after the beta test there are first ratings on Steam and they are only “balanced”. In the reviews, it’s mainly criticism of the game’s performance, the decision to provide many quests with long waiting times and not making it very rewarding for Free2Play players.

What goes down well? Of course, in addition to the criticism, there are also some positive aspects that the beta testers noticed.

The game seems to be a recommendation especially for players who enjoy looting and building. The trailer already gives hope for a lot of creative freedom when building your own house.

If you like to immerse yourself in fantasy worlds with different areas and fights and want to build your own little home at the same time, Dawnlands might be just the right game for you.
