On June 9th, Nevergrind Online launched on Steam. This is an indie dungeon crawler that focuses on the dungeons. Although the game does not currently have a large player base, the 65 reviews are 100% positive – also because there is no real-money shop.

What is this game exactly? Nevergrind Online is an online role-playing game in which you create a character from 12 different races and 14 classes. Each class has access to 12 unique skills.

With your character you can then start out of cities in various dungeons, similar to Guild Wars 1 or Neverwinter.

  • You should be able to complete the dungeons alone or together with a group of up to 5 players.
  • There’s a classic Holy Trinity of Tank, Healer, and DD.
  • Before entering a dungeon you should stock up on weapons, armor and potions in the cities.
  • The dungeons are generated procedurally and should always offer new challenges. There is a normal and a heroic mode.
  • There is a classic guild system with a bank and its own chat.
  • It is played entirely in first-person view. You don’t see your fellow players in a group, because they share the same location with you.
  • After the release there should also be the possibility to implement a hardcore mode in which the character is permanently defeated after death.

How is the game financed? Nevergrind Online is Buy2Play and costs 16.79 euros in Early Access. The game does not have a real money shop. Bank expansions, inventory spaces and the like should be paid for entirely with in-game currency.

Reviews on Steam are 100% positive

How is the game doing? Nevergrind entered Early Access on June 10th and peaked at 76 concurrent players. At least 185 players were online at the same time on Saturday evening. The trend currently looks as if this number will be surpassed again today, June 12 (via SteamDB).

The reviews on Steam are currently 100% positive, although you have to consider that due to the Buy2Play hurdle and the fresh release, there are currently mainly players in Nevergrind who are interested in such a role-playing game. In addition, there are many reviews that have previously played the alpha and beta.

    Be praised:

  • The old school feel that reminds some of EverQuest 1 – especially in the sound and animations
  • The different classes with unique buffs and playstyles
  • Finding groups easily
  • The positive community
  • The good loot spiral
  • The developer who responds directly to player feedback and interacts with them
  • However, there is criticism for:

  • Some bugs
  • Missing “Quality of Life” content, such as more info about the party members
  • Who is the game interesting for? From the reviews it can be concluded that Nevergrind Online is primarily aimed at fans of old school MMORPGs who like to explore dungeons with other players. You should also have a preference for “Blobbers”, i.e. games like Might & Magic or Wizardry, where all characters only occupy one position.

If you’re looking for a classic and modern MMORPG, you’ve come to the wrong place. But there are still some interesting releases coming up for 2022:
