Nvidia opens production in the Swedish city of Falun, Dalarna. It is clear from one press release on Wednesday.
The world’s most powerful company
Nvidia is well on its way to becoming the world’s richest company, in competition with tech giants such as Apple, Amazon, Alphabet (Google), Meta (Facebook), Microsoft and Tesla – collectively known as the “magnificent seven”.
Europe is building AI
And the expansion continues. The major growth of the AI infrastructure will take place in Europe in the next few years, writes the company Coreweave in the press release, which will open operations in Falun to Nvidia.
The company will build two more data centers in Europe – in Norway and one will end up in Spain.
The investment will cost Coreweave a total of 2.2 billion dollars, equivalent to 23 billion kroner. But how much is being invested in each of the three data centers is not clear.
If the investment in Falun were to account for a third of the cost, it would mean almost 8 billion Swedish kronor. In other words, it means a lot of job opportunities in addition to high-tech infrastructure in Dalarna.
What does Coreweave do?
Coreweaves leases cloud-based processing power needed to power AI functions. In other words, it is the oxygen in the high-tech AI lung. Sweden has previously been criticized for falling behind when it comes to AI development. This is a measure that could make up for Sweden’s late start.
Foreign Trade Minister Johan Forsell (M) says this in the press release:
– This is a great proof of the trust in the Swedish technology sector and I am proud that the Swedish investment climate attracts pioneering companies like Coreweave.
